As I write this note to you, the heat of summer has faded and the kids are back in school. The continuous heat waves this summer were certainly wearing, similar to the real estate market, which is wearing all of us down. Where is that real estate market comeback? It’s got to get better. Where is the good news on housing? Is there any good news on housing? Legislative and regulatory changes along with some really interesting court cases have made this year even more complex for all of us in the title industry.
I write to inform you that PLTA has worked hard over the summer to represent your interests and those of the entire title industry in Pennsylvania. Here are just a few of the things that I have been part of this summer as President of PLTA: I attended a successful PLTA organizational meeting to plan the coming year with our chair persons and chapter chairs; I attended the “PRODA” ( Pennsylvania Recorder of Deeds Association) Convention and addressed that group on the importance of the land title industry; I have been working in Lehigh County on various recording issues and finally am starting to see some positive results. (I will be writing a separate article on the role we played in resolving issues in the recording process in Lehigh County, PA, in the near future.) I have also been attending various meetings in Harrisburg on Legislative issues impacting our industry along with our Legislative Chair, Attorney Laura Fox and our Executive Director, Pam Croke; I have attended meetings with ALTA on various national issues that affect us locally, along with the start of “strategic planning meetings” for the future of PLTA.
I share this to let you know that, as President, I recognize the difficult economic challenges you are facing and want to assure you that PLTA continues to work diligently on your behalf to enhance your industry along with your career as a land title professional.
As the summer ends, I hope all of you had some time to enjoy those summer breezes. Let’s keep the hope that those summer breezes have inflated the sails of the housing and mortgage markets!
Warm Regards.
Phil Janny, CLTP
